Our Principal
EPACS is able to attract highly qualified teachers with strong educational backgrounds. These committed individuals are the heart of our school's remarkable success. As part of inspiring their students to go on to college, each teacher flies the flag of their alma mater outside their classroom.
Terry Kawi
Meet our school leader at EPACS! Prior to joining EPACS, Principal Terry Kawi worked for five years with Aspire Public Schools. In her first four years at Aspire, she taught middle school English Language Arts at Berkeley Arts Magnet School and ERES Academy where she was able to build her leadership capacity as a lead teacher, transformational coach, and Professional Development facilitator. Most recently, she was the Secondary Humanities Program Manager and worked with and alongside teachers, teams, and administration in different capacities to strategically improve instructional programming across the Bay Area region through thought partnership and cycles of coaching, data analysis, and progress monitoring. She is committed to learning and pushing her practice as a critically conscious and culturally responsive educator.
Principal Kawi was born in San Francisco and raised in South City and on the Peninsula. She graduated from UC Davis and earned her Master’s in Teaching Secondary English from University of Southern California. Her interests include intermediate literacy and critical pedagogy, and some of her influences are Gloria Ladson-Billings, bell hooks, Audre Lorde, Lisa D. Delpit, and Thich Nhat Hanh. She has collaborated with PBS Teachers' Lounge, PBS Learning Media, NEWSELA, and Learning for Justice. Outside of work, Principal Kawi enjoys yoga and movement, being in community with loved ones, and hanging with her dog Nick.
